Devlog 20: First Boss, but Better


Hello everyone! Welcome to Endurance v0.1.6.

This version is mainly a bug fix for v0.1.5. That version introduced bosses and some of their mechanics. To read more about that, check out the previous devlog. However, in this version, some bugs were fixed that completely broke bosses. Those bugs were...

  • touching the bottom of a boss made the player and the boss stick together
  • the Mystery Box would sometimes give the player a "blank" trap that did nothing but display the trap timer bar
  • collecting a trap cleared all collectables, including the boss spawner, but the boss spawner would never reappear, locking the player out of fighting a boss
  • defeating a boss would immediately give the player the boss spawner to fight the boss again

In the current version of the game, the boss spawner now only appears at certain score thresholds. To be specific, the score threshold starts at 250 points and is multiplied by 1.8 every time a boss is spawned.

Another major bug (feature?) that has been fixed is that the player can no longer stand inside of spawning enemies and not die. If you stand inside of a spawning enemy, they will immediately kill you upon spawning into the game.

With these major bugs removed, please give this version of Endurance a try and tell me what you think of bosses so far. My next plans for v0.1.7 is to expand on the only boss in-game right now and give him more phases. As always, if you have any feedback, please let me know.
