Devlog 13: More Power-ups + Guide
Hello everyone! Welcome to Endurance 0.0.7, which features some neat new additions.
New Power-ups
There are two new power-ups that you can collect in Endurance: the time-slow and the dash-reset power-ups. The "slow time" power-up slows all enemies for 10 seconds, giving you more than enough time to dash into them or escape a tight situation. The "reset dash" power-up immediately ends your dash cooldown, letting you quickly get out of a crowd of enemies.
Guide
The previously-inactive Guide section on the title screen now has some functionality. There is a fully-functional (probably, I made it at 2 in the morning) Basic Gameplay section which walks you through Endurance's basic controls and gameplay mechanics. Also, there is the beginnings of an enemy guide that can be viewed. Only one enemy is viewable, but the rest will be added in a future update. Currently, the collectables guide is unavailable until all collectables have been added.
Other Tweaks
The inventory has gotten a touch-up. Now, the icons for the power-ups are blacked out until you collect one. The names of the power-ups have been removed from the inventory to save room. Also, above the inventory panel is a small blurb telling you how to toggle the inventory on and off. It is visible at all times above the cooldown bar.
All power-ups, including the screen-wipe, have gotten neat effects that appear when they are used. The screen-wipe power-up makes the screen briefly flash white as the enemies are removed. The "slow time" power-up causes a vignette to appear around the screen when active. A bar also appears at the top of the screen to show how long the power-up is active for. All power-ups feature a snippet of text that appears at the top of the screen telling the player what the power-up did.
Plans for the Future
Power-ups are going to get polished a bit with sound effects and other things. The inventory, while (in my opinion) fine now, could get some tweaking if others aren't too fond of its current state. Of course, the "power-downs" or traps will most likely come with the next update, along with a finished Guide section.
So far, progress on Endurance is going smoothly. Almost all of the main game mechanics I wanted in the game are added, so polishing and extra features (as well as extensive bug testing) will be coming soon! Sorry for not updating the game in a few days--I've been working on a YouTube video that's been taking a lot of time to edit and have been dedicating all of my time to it.
That's all for now. Please give this new and improved version of the game a try and tell me what you think. Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful day!
